**Job Description:**


Duties will include, but not be limited to, vertical and horizontal well planning and design, writing AFEs, analyzing drilling performance and costs, evaluating vendor performance, and the research and application of emerging technology in the drilling space for multiple domestic basins. In addition, the successful candidate must be able to work closely and effectively with G\&G, Reservoir, Completions, Land, and various regulatory groups as a key participant in the full life\-of\-well planning process. The candidate will be expected to track and provide detailed performance and cashflow metrics for the rest of the operations team as well as offer guidance for areas of improvement. While primarily a corporate office role, the candidate should be willing to spend time in the field and/or at various workshops or certification classes to expand their knowledge base.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Support the safe planning and execution of a well’s drilling phase through participating in risk assessments and implementing key outcomes.
* Review drilling techniques and procedures to ensure they demonstrate the Company’s commitment to a safe work environment.
* Ensure drilling programs and all supporting documents (including directional plans, wellbore diagrams, and necessary permits) are accurately prepared and delivered on time for multiple rigs.
* Work cooperatively with various resource teams both internally and externally with key vendors.
* Review daily drilling reports and identify any areas of concern or opportunities for improvement. Work along side other departments such as completions or production to convey lessons learned in the area while drilling.
* Organize and lead bid processes for services and equipment. Ensure proper analysis is complete prior to recommending vendor for award of the scope of work.
* Perform post\-drilling analyses and present key findings quarterly.
* Liaise with Drilling Superintendents to monitor daily drilling operations and perform contractor safety, quality assurance, and quality control reviews on site.
* Review and approve various steps through drilling process including; bottom hole assembly (BHA) designs, cementing volumes, casing depths, as well as many other decision points.
* Be reasonably available after work hours to assist with emergencies if they arise at the rig site.
**Other Duties and Responsibilities**

* Ensure the drilling rig schedule allows for a proper planning timeline and takes all permitting issues into consideration.
* Participate in the drillsite and access road design process.
* Review and approve invoices with guidance from Drilling Manager
* Provide supporting documents to Regulatory for any necessary permit applications.
* Research outside operations and perform competitor studies for best practices. Network and maintain appropriate contacts within the industry.
**Requirements**

* The minimum educational requirement is a B.S. in Engineering with a preference for Petroleum Engineering.
* Applicant should have a minimum of 2 years of upstream related experience, with preference given to drilling related field experience and or previous drilling engineer roles.
* Experience in the well construction and execution of horizontal wells in the Haynesville Shale, Permian, and/or Williston Basin would be a plus.
* Experience in multiple facets of the drilling process (directional drilling, cementing, rig operations, float equipment, etc) would be a plus.
* Must have strong computer skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally to both the field level and upper management.
