Electrical Engineer - Power Systems
Job Description
The Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Systems is responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution systems supporting pipeline, compressor station, and industrial energy facilities. This role provides technical leadership across all project phases, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant power system performance.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Lead design and development of **electrical power systems** including generation, substations, and distribution networks
* Perform and review **power system studies** (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, coordination)
* Design and specify **medium and high voltage equipment** (switchgear, transformers, MCCs, relays, UPS/DC systems)
* Support **utility interconnection and power source integration**
* Develop and review **one\-line diagrams, three\-line diagrams, and electrical schematics**
* Prepare and review **technical specifications, RFQs, and bid evaluations**
* Review **vendor submittals and drawings** for compliance and integration
* Support **construction, commissioning, and startup activities**, including field troubleshooting
* Ensure compliance with **NEC, IEEE, IEC, API, and ISA standards**
* Coordinate with **engineering disciplines, project managers, and EPC contractors**
* Develop project **scope, schedules, budgets, and cost estimates**
* Support **Owner’s Engineer activities**, including FAT/SAT and equipment validation
* Maintain and update **electrical engineering standards and specifications**
* Mentor junior engineers and support team development
* Ensure adherence to **QA/QC processes and safety standards (OSHA compliance)**
**Required Qualifications**
**Education:**
* Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred)
**Experience:**
* 10\+ years of experience in **electrical power systems design**
* Experience with **oil \& gas, pipelines, compressor stations, pump stations, or industrial facilities**
* Proven experience with **substation design and power distribution systems**
**Certifications:**
* Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
* Valid driver’s license
**Technical Skills**
* Strong knowledge of **medium and high voltage systems (MV/HV)**
* Experience with **power system analysis software** (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower)
* Expertise in **protective relaying and coordination studies**
* Familiarity with **grounding systems, arc flash analysis, and system protection**
* Ability to read and develop **P\&IDs, one\-lines, and electrical schematics**
* Experience with **motor control systems, VFDs, and industrial automation interfaces**
* Understanding of **power quality, harmonics, and system reliability**
