**Position Summary:**
We are seeking an experienced Senior PLC Engineer to lead automation initiatives within a high\-volume manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for designing, standardizing, and optimizing control systems while providing technical leadership across plant operations. The ideal candidate brings deep hands\-on expertise, strong project leadership, and a focus on driving up time, efficiency, and long\-term scalability.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Lead the design, development, and implementation of PLC\-based control systems for new and existing production lines
* Own plant\-wide automation standards, including PLC programming structure, HMI design, and network architecture
* Serve as the subject matter expert for PLCs, HMIs, motion systems, and industrial networking
* Oversee commissioning, startup, and validation of capital equipment and automation projects
* Mentor junior engineers and maintenance technicians on controls and troubleshooting best practices
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on OEE, downtime reduction, and process optimization
* Lead root cause analysis for major equipment failures and implement long\-term corrective solutions
* Collaborate with cross\-functional teams (production, maintenance, quality, and corporate engineering)
* Manage external integrators, vendors, and contractors during project execution
* Ensure compliance with safety standards, including machine safety and lockout/tagout procedures
* Maintain documentation standards, including electrical drawings, PLC backups, and revision control
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
* 7\+ years of PLC programming and controls engineering experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
* Advanced proficiency with **Allen\-Bradley Studio 5000** and/or **Siemens TIA Portal**
* Strong experience with HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition, etc.)
* Deep understanding of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, OPC UA)
* Proven experience leading automation projects from concept through commissioning
* Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and ability to interpret complex schematics
**Preferred Qualifications:**
* Experience in high\-speed or high\-volume manufacturing
* Expertise in motion control systems, servo drives, and coordinated motion
* Experience with industrial robotics (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, etc.)
* Knowledge of functional safety standards (SIL, ISO 13849, NFPA 79\)
* Familiarity with MES systems, data acquisition, and Industry 4\.0 / IIoT integration
* Project management experience (budgeting, scheduling, vendor coordination)
